2008 Keynote Speaker - Dominic Carter

"Inside City Hall" Host/

Senior Political Reporter

Dominic Carter

"Inside City Hall" Host
Senior Political Reporter

Veteran newsman Dominic Carter has been described as the best
political reporter working in New York television today. A fixture at
NY1 since the newschannel launched in 1992, Carter in 2007 released a
book on his life, titled No Momma's Boy, in which he chronicles his
triumphant struggle to overcome his mother's mental illness while
growing up in a Bronx housing project.

As the host of NY1's nightly political show, "Inside City Hall,"
Carter has handled some of the station's most challenging assignments
and has interviewed every major political player in the state, as
well as many national and international leaders.

In 2006 he received widespread acclaim for his role as the moderator
of series of state-wide debates for governor, U.S. Senator and state
attorney general. During the first debate with Senator Hillary
Clinton, he made international headlines when Clinton said for the
first time that she was thinking about running for president.

His numerous exclusive interviews include former President Bill
Clinton, the late John Cardinal O'Conner and the parents of police-
brutality victim Amadou Diallo. As a radio reporter he conducted an
exclusive interview with Nelson Mandela during Mandela's historic
visit to the United States – an interview he conducted as thousands
of journalists from around the country pursued the South African
president.

The NY1 stalwart has also reported extensively from abroad. In 1993
he was the only television journalist in Japan with then-Mayor David
Dinkins at the time of the first World Trade Center terrorist
bombing, and his interview with the mayor made headlines back in New
York.

He twice traveled to Israel to cover visits to the region by
then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani; he has reported on the famine from Somalia;
and he has spent time in the Persian Gulf.

No Mamma's Boy, his self-published memoir, was released in May 2007
to critical acclaim. Newsday said, "No TV anchor has ever produced a
memoir as grippingly honest as this." The book is available at Barnes
and Noble stores and online at barnesandnoble.com.

Fay Daley - Author of A Call to Fast

Book Review by Jon Karr: When most people think of fasting, they imagine a painful deprivation, reserved mostly for monks and Old Testament characters. Daley's book shatters that notion by showing that fasting is more about rebirth than death. Rather than destroying health by depriving the body, a fast restores health by purifying the body. She outlines a program of fasting that focuses primarily upon total body health and well-being.

Toxins at any given time, there are a shocking number of toxins at work in our bodies. It is easy to miss the correlation between our eating habits and our spiritual lives until we take a closer look at these toxins and their effects. Poor eating habits allow a buildup of poisonous materials in the body, which can lead to stress, irritability, or tiredness. These feelings often manifest themselves spiritually and emotionally through anger or laziness, causing us to lose our peace and serenity.

The Journey and The attitude we have toward our bodies is in many ways a direct reflection of the attitude we have toward our spiritual lives. A fast is more than a physical journey; it is about a closer walk with God. A fast is a journey of spiritual awakening, a period of renewed dependence upon God and an opportunity for a deepened relationship with Him through prayer and meditation.

The Call This book is comprehensive, covering all aspects of the physical and spiritual journey of fasting. It is backed by Daley's years of experience leading fasts for the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York. She includes moving testimonials, inspirational and empowering scripture readings, and thorough and detailed fasting schedules with charts and tips to help along the way. Daley's program offers hope for those who want to rid their bodies and lives of deadly toxins. With God's help, we can eat better and live healthier lives. The question is, "Do you hear the call?"
